An updated Aadhar is necessary when you have PAN Card, Bank accounts, Voter ID connected to it. For example, your bank account or PAN card may become inactive for every three years. On the other hand, if you got married and have changed your location then you need to update as to cast a vote in upcoming elections – Normally this is for women as their surname is also changed normally.
Adhaar card may need an update due to a number of reasons. Normally, aadhaar updates are categorized as demographic information and biometric data.
Demographic consist of a name, home address, date of birth, gender, email ID, sim number, relationship status, etc. Biometric information includes Retina -IRIS, fingertips, and a photograph.
How to Update an Adhaar Card?
You can do this in three possible ways online, post, or by visiting nearby enrollment center.
Now, if your biometric data needs to be updated like for children once the reach the age of 15 they must go to Enrollment center nearby.
Demographic details can be updated online or through a post. You can also update demographic at enrollment if you are not OK with online or post kind of stuff.
Now let’s review all these procedures one by one
Update Adhaar Card |Online
This method is preferred if you are just going for demographic details like name, dob, mobile number, surname after marriage, or address.
For this, you must have a mobile number already registered with UIDAI or else you can not do it as you have to receive an OTP (One -Time Password) or TOTP (Time-Based Temporary Password).
If you have all this stuff then you are good to go for the next steps
Step 1: Go to UIDAI official portal call SSUP here Click here for Self Service Update Portal
Step 2: Enter your 12-digits aadhaar card number to log in
Step 3: Enter the Captcha as in picture there like “1586”
Step 4: Now click at “Send OTP”
Step 5: Enter the OTP below which you have received at your mobile immediately.
Step 6: Now, you will see fields that you can change online at SSUP
Step 7: Click on the desired check-box like Name, Gender, DOB, Address, Mobile Number, and E-Mail ID. Click Submit after careful selection.
Step 7: Upload soft-copy of supporting attested documents for Adhaar card mainly required for name /surname corrections.
Step 8: Once everything is submitted successfully then you will be given a URN- Update Request Number. By using this you can track your request online.
Note: SSUP (self-service update portal) supports the following languages:
English, Gujarati, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu
Update Adhaar Card |Enrollment Center
This is the best option if you wanted to change biometric details and as well as if you are not having access to a computer.
Here, as said earlier you can change every possible thing on aadhaar card.
Fix an appointment by calling any enrollment center nearby and carry the original documents on the due date. They will scan the original documents and handed you back. No hard copy is required there. Here, you have to pay 25 INR on every visit but the online process is free.

Duration for Adhaar Card Update?
Normally it takes around 90 days to deliver at your address but may go long. But you need to keep on tracking through URN has given to you during successful application submission. As soon as the changes are reflected on you can download an Eaadhaar from UIDAI. This works like the original Aadhaar card. In case you are updating E-mail ID or mobile number then you will only receive an SMS from UIDAI.
